Description

The Phoenix Audio DRS1R/500 is a mono pre amp and DI for the API 500 series, it was designed to be identical in terms of features and sonics as the ever popular DRS1 but in a new format. The unit runs at 24v thanks due to the special power supply built into the unit so it offers no sonic sacrifices whilst still maintaining a very low current use needed for the API format and is well within its API VPR limits.

    Great color, excellent functionality

I use two of these for coloration and extra gain when driving into a buss compressor, and it works wonders for both of those tasks. Phoenix Audio describes the color as "valve-like" which I totally agree with --- it breaks up like a tube does when pushed hard, which can sound really wonderful on certain things (i.e. drums). There's also a nice smiley face sticker on the output transformer which shows that Phoenix Audio has a sense of humor. Definitely a great sound and a great deal!

Phoenix Audio is a great tool

Posted by David James (Bluesmobilemusic.com) on September 25, 2013

This unit is very nice. It has many features that are extremely important to me like a high pass filter, phase reverse switch, mute, a DI for instruments as well, and of course, metering. It's like getting two units in one.

Very nice sound, not meant to be clean. It will color the sound, which is exactly what I'm looking for. Yes, I'd buy it again and Lunchbox Audio treated me very well.
